Doris Ward was a trailblazing African American political figure and educator. She was the first African American woman to be elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977.
Throughout her life, Ward advocated for civil rights, education, and opportunities for women and minority communities. She played a significant role in addressing issues such as affordable housing, public health, and urban development in San Francisco.
She was a member in good standing of the San Francisco Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Her dedication to public service and her pioneering achievements have left a lasting impact on the city's history and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
